Wesley is planning a winter mission trip to Red Bird Mission Work Camp in Beverly, Kentucky which is in the southeast corner of Kentucky (which is about a 7 hour drive from Culver). The trip is planned from Monday, January 15, 2018 through Saturday, January 20, 2018 (Monday and Saturday will be travel days and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be work days). Price per person is $180 and includes meals, lodging and supplies.
Winter projects are primarily on campus and could include work to support the Maintenance Department or Work Camp preparations for the next year, which may include cabin remodels, kitchen and Cardinal House remodels, bathroom repairs, electrical, etc. Most of our work will be inside due to weather related constraints.
Red Bird Mission was founded in 1921 in the southeastern corner of Kentucky to provide education and Christian evangelism ministries to residents of the area. The Mission was started by the Evangelical Church on a small piece of property, at the confluence of Cow Fork and the Red Bird River.
The story of Red Bird is one of deep faith in God. Red Bird Mission was born in answer to prayer. It is a story of gracious outpouring of prayer and means by the church.
The Work Camp program that enlisted volunteers to maintain mission facilities decades ago now involves approximately 2500 participants annually and expanded its purpose to include community home repair and improvement in 1984. The first new home was built in 2016 in the community by volunteers.
Since its early days Red Bird Mission has worked to meet the health care needs of people in the Red Bird River Valley. The community outreach ministries to the elderly and families of our community have grown to be a significant part of the overall ministries since the 1990s.
